Many wonder how to become great but few do. The majority who set new year resolutions do not accomplish them. Most people wish they could achieve more but few realize just how attainable it is.
Don’t worry about making a lot of progress. Simply focus on becoming 1% better today.
What a lot of people don’t realize is how powerful small, incremental, improvement is over long periods of time. Many of us overestimate what we can accomplish this week, month or year but greatly underestimate what we can accomplish in the next 2 to 5 years.
It’s going to take some time to improve, so only focus on what it will take to reach the next 1% of your goal. The trick to becoming great isn’t found in greatness itself but in mundane repetition and small, seemingly invisible accomplishment.
The 1% Principle
The reason I am sharing this with you today is because unrealistic expectations can crush your dreams. Large goals, not broken down into 1% sized bites feel near impossible. Massive vision without daily action is a pipe dream.
It’s more simple than you think to become great. Start today, wherever you are. Expect failure to meet you around each corner. Children learn to walk by falling down and we admire the effort they put in.
Today, make a decision to do something that will push you to become better by as little a metric as you can measure. If you’re able to do this daily just imagine where you could be a year from today? You could be 365% better, more than 3 1/2 X your current skills. Suddenly sounds pretty great, right?
Are you wondering how to improve at your job, relationship, career, hobby or profession? Start small, play the long game and conquer your dreams.
