Play to Your Strengths
To share your brand messaging online, the first thing you need to understand is what your strengths are so you can play from a winning position and uncover the world of Social Mastery. Many businesses online are struggling to share their unique brand message and the more entrepreneurs I meet, who want to understand how I’ve grown more than 150k followers online across several brands, fail to understand this first principle we’re going to discuss today. You absolutely, undeniably, without a doubt, have to play to your strengths.
The goal of this new series on Social Mastery is to unveil what unique talents you have to make a difference in the world around you while building your brand online.
How to Win Online
The first step to creating a compelling brand is to be honest and transparent with people interested in your potential message. I say potential because when someone follows or will follow you, they are anticipating future content from you that aligns with their values. Because followers are following you on the basis of something they are passionate about, it also means that they will smell when something is off from a mile away. Make sure that the message you’re sharing is one that you actively care about and derive meaning from – this is how you will become a trusted source of information and deeply respected by followers.
You can have all the social tools in the world, but without a clear message you have nothing.
Now, this first step towards honesty and deep integrity means you need to sit down with your team (if you have one) and go through these next several questions.
Questions to Ask
For each question below, have your team write down a personal and business answer. Have them share about themselves then about the business. This is crucial.
- Who am I/are we?
- What do I/we stand for as a person/business?
- Where does this passion, interest, motivation come from?
- When did I/we decide that these things mattered most to me/us?
- Why do I/we believe our message matters?
Questions for Nurturing and Growing a Following
- Who cares about our message?
- What are they interested in?
- What value do we offer them?
- Where are they located geographically?
- Where is a community that models what we’re after?
- When someone follows us, how can we have them engage friends, co-workers?
- How can our business improve someone’s life drastically?
- What is the potential impact of our message?
- If we could create any level of impact, what would that look like?
We’re going to spend some time really diving into the key principles that I believe define Social Mastery and that will mean revisiting several of these questions. Additionally, we’re going to begin to observe the overlapping theme of asking questions to uncover answers that have always been there – we just didn’t realize we had to ask a certain question to uncover them.
